Urban development as a game
The ‘Stadtbühne’ (engl. City Stage) is a playful workshop for collaborative urban development. It is conceived as an instrument for concept designers and actors of formal and informal city planning, to contribute to developing urban planning guidelines. Hands-on elements and specific methods enable the participants to produce, for example in context of communal participatory processes, qualified inputs to issues regarding urban developments and thus enrich the public discourse.
Concept
Process and documentation
The ‘Stadtbühne’ is organised in five steps, which are played one after the other under the guidance of a game supervisor/director. In every phase the participants will use specifically designed tools, which allow them to produce content and physically keep record of it.
The continuous documentation of game results by the players during the game creates a visual overview of all results by the end of the game. A final processing by the game directors secures the collected knowledge and makes it useable for other parties involved in the process.
